AMD Unveils Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F for Gaming and Productivity PCs

AMD has expanded its Ryzen 8000 Series desktop processor lineup with the introduction of the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F processors. These new additions target entry-level gaming and productivity systems, offering compelling performance without integrated graphics capabilities.

The Ryzen 7 8700F is an 8-core, 16-thread processor based on the Zen 4 architecture, featuring a max boost clock of up to 5 GHz and a base clock of 4.1 GHz. It comes with 24MB of combined cache (8MB L2 + 16MB L3) and a configurable TDP range of 45-65W. The processor is built on TSMC's 4nm FinFET process and has a 178mm² CPU compute die size. The Ryzen 7 8700F features AMD's Ryzen AI capabilities when paired with a compatible Radeon graphics card, delivering up to 16 TOPS of AI performance.

Designed as the starting point for a serious gaming PC, the Ryzen 7 8700F offers up to 124% better gaming and creator performance compared to the previous generation. It supports key technologies like Precision Boost 2, AMD EXPO Memory Overclocking, Precision Boost Overdrive, and Curve Optimizer Voltage Offsets.

On the other hand, the Ryzen 5 8400F is a 6-core, 12-thread processor with a max boost clock of up to 4.7 GHz and a base clock of 4.2 GHz. It shares the same 16MB L3 cache and 4nm process node as the Ryzen 7 8700F but has a slightly lower 6MB L2 cache. The Ryzen 5 8400F is positioned as AMD's new entry-level gaming processor, offering up to 114% better gaming performance compared to the previous generation. However, it does not feature AMD Ryzen AI capabilities.

Both processors support DDR5 memory with speeds up to DDR5-5200 (2x1R/2x2R) or DDR5-3600 (4x1R/4x2R), PCIe 4.0 connectivity, and NVMe RAID support. They are compatible with the AM5 socket and require a discrete graphics card, as they do not feature integrated graphics.

Other features include support for Windows 11/10, Linux distributions, up to 256GB of memory, and various security and virtualization technologies like AMD Enhanced Virus Protection (NX bit).
