June 2024 Steam Insights: Windows 11 Gains Ground, AMD Challenges Intel

The latest Steam Hardware & Software Survey for June 2024 offers a comprehensive look at the processors and hardware powering gaming rigs around the globe. Let's dive into the key highlights and trends from the data, focusing on both processor usage details and other critical hardware components:

Windows 11 Gains Ground

Windows 10 64-bit remains the top dog but has seen a notable decline from 52.23% in May to 51.15% in June. On the other hand, Windows 11 64-bit is gaining ground, now capturing 48.26% of the market. This marks a growing acceptance and transition towards Microsoft's latest OS among the gaming community.

CPU Market Share

The battle between Intel and AMD rages on, with Intel holding a significant lead but AMD making notable inroads. Intel dominates the Windows market, with a stable presence around 67%, experiencing a slight dip of 0.04% from May to June. AMD, while trailing, has seen a more significant fluctuation, dropping 1.54% over the same period but maintaining a substantial portion of the market.

GPU Trends

When it comes to GPU usage, NVIDIA continues to dominate the charts, occupying the top spots with its GeForce RTX series. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 remains the most popular GPU, albeit with a slight dip from 6.19% in May to 5.66% in June. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 holds the second spot with 4.16%, reflecting a marginal decrease. However, AMD's RX 6800 XT showed the largest monthly gain of 0.53%.

Other notable movements in the GPU market include Intel Iris Xe Graphics and Intel UHD Graphics, which saw slight declines. The AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT experienced a small drop, holding 0.61% of the market.

Core Counts Rising

6-core CPUs remain the most common at 33.48%, but 8-core processors are gaining popularity, now at 23.29% share.

These trends reflect the ongoing competition in the PC hardware space, the evolving demands of PC gamers, and Microsoft's push to transition users to its latest operating system. The survey provides valuable insights into the PC gaming landscape, though it may not be fully representative of the broader PC market.
