Gigabyte has officially confirmed the branding of AMD's next-generation Zen 5 desktop processors, revealing they will be launched as the Ryzen 9000 series. The company has announced BIOS support for these upcoming CPUs on its lineup of AM5 motherboards, including the X670, B650, and A620 series.
According to Gigabyte's press release, the latest AGESA 1.1.7.0 beta BIOS will provide initial boot-up support for Ryzen 9000 series processors on compatible AM5 motherboards. This BIOS update also includes support for the current Ryzen 7000 and 8000 desktop CPUs.
Gigabyte now joins ASUS and MSI in publicly confirming plans to enable Zen 5 CPU compatibility on existing AM5 motherboard platforms through BIOS updates. The early preparations from major motherboard vendors suggest AMD's Ryzen 9000 series launch could be imminent.
While Gigabyte's BIOS currently only offers basic boot support for Zen 5, more comprehensive updates are expected closer to the official release date. AMD is anticipated to unveil its Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" processors at Computex 2024 in early June, with a potential launch following in July at the earliest.
Official details about the Zen 5 architecture remain limited, but AMD has promised enhanced performance, efficiency, a re-pipelined front-end, a wider issue, and integrated AI/ML optimizations compared to the previous Zen 4 core design.
