Twitch, OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), and NVIDIA are teaming up to enhance livestreaming technology with the upcoming release of Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting beta. This new feature, powered by GeForce RTX GPUs, is set to roll out in the next few days, allowing streamers to simultaneously stream multiple encodes for a better viewing experience.
Addressing Livestreaming Challenges
Livestreamers often face the dilemma of choosing between higher resolution and reliable streaming. High-quality video can lead to buffering for viewers with lower bandwidth or older devices, while lower-bitrate streaming may compromise the overall viewing experience. Although Twitch provides server-side transcoding for top channels, many leave their audience with only one streaming option.
Introducing Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting
In response to these challenges, Twitch, OBS, and NVIDIA have collaborated to develop Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting, entering beta later this month. Leveraging the dedicated encoder (NVENC) in modern GeForce RTX and GTX GPUs, this feature enables streamers to broadcast up to three resolutions simultaneously, reaching up to 1080p.

Future Features and Simplified Setup
Beta testers will have the chance to experiment with higher-input bit rates, resolutions up to 4K, and up to 5 concurrent streams in the coming months. The introduction of new codecs, such as AV1 for GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs and HEVC for previous-generation GeForce GPUs, aims to improve encoding efficiency.
To simplify setup, Enhanced Broadcasting will automatically configure OBS encoder settings, including resolution, bit rate, and encoding parameters. A server-side algorithm will determine the best configuration for OBS Studio based on the streamer’s setup.
Participate in the Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting Beta
Interested creators can sign up for the Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting beta at twitch.tv/broadcast. Participants will be enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis, with enrollment starting later this month. Once enrolled, creators will receive an email with additional instructions.
For those looking to enhance their livestreams further, the NVIDIA Broadcast app, free for RTX GPU owners, can be downloaded. Powered by dedicated AI Tensor Cores, this app improves broadcast capabilities for microphones and cameras, providing an additional tool for content creators.
The Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting feature represents a significant advancement in livestreaming technology, offering a more inclusive and immersive experience for both streamers and viewers.
