PC Express Joins Game Tech QC

"Career awareness workshop for Esports and Game Development."

In partnership with DOST- National Capital Region, DOST-National Capital Region PAMAMAZON Cluster, the Schools Division Office, Quezon City, and the Quezon City Education Affairs Unit, the first Campus Takeover aims to bring industry and career conversations closer to students.

“Gaming can be the starting point, not the destination”

Gaming has become a growing technology and creative industry, establishing itself not only as a form of entertainment but also as a professional field with a wide range of career opportunities. Esports, as one of the most visible aspects of gaming, can serve as an entry point into a much wider career ecosystem that includes programming, marketing, production, art, and many more. What may look like a gaming event can be an introduction to an entire world of career possibilities.

GameTech QC: Campus Takeover is a career-awareness initiative by Quezon City that brings conversations about game development, esports, and the broader GameTech industry directly to students. Rather than focusing solely on gaming as entertainment, the event introduces students to the skills, professions, and opportunities behind the industry, including game development, animation, design, storytelling, and digital interactive media.

Also present at GameTech QC was the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP). As an organization representing the local game-development sector, GDAP works to develop and promote the Philippine game industry by nurturing its ecosystem and bringing together game studios, developers, technology companies, and educational institutions. Its presence at GameTech QC reinforces an important message: behind the games people play and enjoy is a growing professional industry with real careers and opportunities.

These efforts are part of a broader push to develop the country's esports game-development ecosystem, with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) playing an important role. DOST recognizes game development and esports as part of the country's technology and innovation landscape, with initiatives focused on developing Filipino talent, encouraging innovation, and strengthening the country's capabilities in game development. As part of these efforts, DOST has partnered with the Esports World Federation (ESWF) to support the development of the local esports game-development ecosystem. GameTech QC reflects this broader movement to introduce young Filipinos to the opportunities that the industry can offer.

Mr. Jesse Tan, Co-founder and Vice President of PC Express, was invited as one of the event’s key speakers, where he discussed career pathways that extend beyond gaming and esports. A game developer needs proper hardware to develop games, while a 3D artist needs a capable and efficient workstation to fully bring their work to life. Even marketing teams may require production equipment to create trailers and other content to promote their games. All of these make PC Express relevant to far more than gaming itself; it represents the technology infrastructure that makes many of these careers possible.

And just like any other product or service, games also need marketing to reach audiences and gain momentum. This involves social media, advertising, content creation, public relations, and many other forms of communication. Mr. Jesse Tan emphasized that a passion for gaming does not have to be limited to simply playing or competing. That passion can also lead to a career supporting the gaming industry, as companies need people who understand marketing, communication, business, and other fields, not just gaming itself.

Students can potentially become the people who create the next generation of gaming businesses. This is also reflected in DOST's emphasis on technology and innovation: you do not necessarily have to find a job in the gaming industry because you could eventually create one. Passion and drive can lead to starting and managing an esports organization, developing your own video game, or even building a hardware and PC business.

Sounds familiar? Because it is.

PC Express has long been a part of the ecosystem that enables people to learn, create, work, and build businesses around technology. It is no wonder, then, that even beyond esports and gaming, there are countless career paths and opportunities where people can pursue their interests, apply their skills, and turn their passion into something more, with technology helping make those possibilities a reality.
